What It Is
Not actual intelligence. Just a fancy autocomplete on steroids. We will hit a ceiling eventually if not very soon.
Calculator For The Brain
Hand calculations got replaced by calculators, rote tasks got replaced by computers. Now reasoining tasks are getting replaced by AI. If the past is any indication, we will find new things to do that AI can't do and the LLM-flavored AI will become the new calculator.
Creative Inspiration
Brainstorming ideas with "vibes" and word vomit is fun. It helps me get unstuck and generate ideas.
Conclusion
I am concerned how I use AI might impact me years down the road. Similar to social media, it is pitched as a tool to "help" (connect with friends vs be more productive). The bastardization of human elements in these tools is a little worrisome to me. Human productivity will definitely improve but maybe our creativity and critical thinking will take a hit. Only time will tell.
